"Enemies of metal, your death is our reward" is
one of the many metal, if not cliched lyrics found within Advance And Vanquish. 3 Inches Of Blood try to recapture
the scene of the mid 80s when Judas Priest and Iron Maiden
were the undisputed metal gods and lyrical content dealt with
dragons, demons and orcs. The band does old school metal justice
here as they recreate this whole sound well, sounding similar
to Maiden at times but also mixing in modern elements and
hints of death metal here and there.
When "Fear On The Bridge" begins you are immediately
introduced to the vocal style which at times fits perfect
but at others seems a bit too ridiculous. The vocals almost
imitate Rob Halford's but end up sounding more like Overkill.
Every song contains these high pitched screeches not letting
up for a second. On "Deadly Sinners" they work perfectly
and same goes for "Destroy The Orcs" but on songs
such as "Crazy Nights" they just sound plain silly.
A little less high pitch wailing and more of the harsher screamed
vocals here and there would have made for a better variety.
This style seems to be different from what anyone else is
doing these days. It is quite evident that this band has no
interest in trends-- be it metalcore, nu-metal or any other
label currently out there. Listening to this album will make
you feel like it's 1986 all over again. They are absolutely
over the top and surely they are a lot to take in. With that
being said, unless your in a room full of metal heads this
isn't an album that you should play at your next party or
social gathering. You'll most likely get some strange looks.
Well maybe just playing "Destroy The Orcs" would
be fine.
