There’s something I find cool about a band having a
song named after itself. It sounds superficial, but it conjures
thoughts of Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden, tells me that some
thought went into the name.
Another Black Day’s self-titled song is the opener
of its self-titled debut album. These guys were off to a great
start before I even heard them. And when their music started
rattling my speakers, they met every expectation I had. I
can see them having major crossover success, sitting as they
do at the intersection of hard rock and thrash metal. The
lead single, “Wicked Soul,” follows the soft-hard
format of so many rock radio songs, while other tracks, such
as “Anymore” and “Take Back,” rumble
along with Slayer-like riffing. Guitarists Matthew Wilkof
and Ernesto Paez trade leads and make a formidable team. Wilkof
also handles vocal duties and displays an impressive range.
Another Black Day has all of the ingredients necessary to
go far in the metal world and has delivered one of the genre’s
most impressive recent debuts. |
