Who knew that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
fronted a metal band? Yes, it's true, the Terminator himself
is the vocalist of Austrian Death Machine and his Mr. Universe
physique graces the album's cover in all of Arnold's '80 action
film glory. Look at the song titles--“Get to the Choppa,”
“Come With Me If You Want to Live,” “If
It Bleeds We Can Kill It”--this is Ahhnold, and his
album is called Total Brutal!
In reality, this album was written, produced and performed
by As I Lay Dying vocalist Time Lambesis, with some help from
a few acclaimed metal musicians. Apparently, in his free time,
Lambesis took it upon himself to write these songs in less
than an hour each, make them as heavy and brutal as possible,
and create a self-proclaimed album of complete stupidity.
Total Brutal is a hilarious parody of everything that encompasses
modern extreme metal, with side-splitting commentary and vocals
from Ahhnold (or someone doing a lousy, albeit funny impression).
Sure, this is a spoof and is intended to piss some people
off, but it's actually leagues better than some of the more
serious and scarier metal acts. Each song is an all-out
thrasher and is indeed ... umm ... brutal. Bottom line:
this shit is good! Guests include producer/guitarist Jason
Suecof, Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Enagage), Eyal Levi and
Emil Werstler (Daath), and Nick Hipa (As I Lay Dying).
Lambesis has no shame. Austrian Death Machine is downright
ridiculous. It's also an original idea. Who else would have
thought of Arnold Schwarzenegger fronting an extreme metal
band? As with any comedy album or show, the first listen is
the best. I couldn't believe what I was hearing when the commentary
started before the first track and led into the insanity of
the rest of the album. A lot of people are bound to hate this,
but lighten up. You'll never lead a truly happy life if you
can't laugh at yourselves every now and then. My only question:
Will he be back? |
