I am absolutely blown away by this release. After repeated
listens, this disc is stuck in my cd player forever. I have
never heard death metal so heavy, brutal, evil and catchy
all at once.
Bloodbath is somewhat of a death metal supergroup, featuring,
Peter Tägtgren ( Hypocrisy, Pain), Anders "Blakkheim"
Nyström ( Katatonia, Diabolical Masquerade, Bewitched),
Dan Swanö (Nightingale, Second Sky, Edge of Sanity),
Jonas Renkse (Katatonia, October Tide), and and Martin “Axe”
Axenrot ( Witchery, NCO, Nifelheim, Satanic Slaughter).
Now that is a whole lot of metal. And it combines perfectly
on Nightmares Made Flesh. The album owes much to
old-school death metal bands, such as Entombed and Carcass,
but reinvents the genre at the same time. Yeah, there are
fast, brutal parts in every song and traditional death metal,
but Bloodbath has some of the most vicious and heavy breakdowns
and grooves ever recorded. "Cancer of the Soul"
and "Outnumbering the Day" are instant death metal
classics.
This is Bloodbath's second full release. Their first, Resurrection
Through Carnage, featured Opeth vocalist Mike Åkerfeldt.
While an excellent death metal vocalist, Åkerfeldt has
a more traditional style, which grows stale after a few songs.
New vocalist Peter Tägtgren strengthens the band considerably
with his more diverse approach. His vocals are some of the
most evil and intense ever laid down. He’ll send shivers
down your spine, but you’ll find yourself screaming
and chanting along with him. The guitars are in your face,
with some of the most memorable and heaviest riffs you'll
ever hear.
Nightmares Made Flesh should be the new model release
for all extreme metal and death metal acts from this day on. |
