| Unknown to many, including me, Swiss metal
band Cataract has existed for 10 years and their 2008 self-titled
effort is their fifth album. The band offers a solid effort
in what is becoming an overcrowded metalcore scene. With death
metal vocal parts, you also could label this deathcore.
I don't really know what else to say. This is a brutal album,
but other than the draw of the band's home country, Cataract
seems to lack any sense of purpose. Things are too formulated
and, as strange as this sounds, lack intensity. Sometimes
the truth hurts, but there are literally 100 bands that have
this metalcore sound. Cataract is fast, pummeling (add your
own adjectives here) and leaves little room to breathe. There's
nothing wrong with having a similar sound to other bands,
but what should make me choose Cataract over anyone else? |
