'An Answer Can Be Found' (Island)

CKY always has been an underrated band. Perhaps people don’t take them seriously because of all the CKY DVDS, Bam Margera, Viva La Bam and all that other stuff. But in reality, all those things don't have much at all to do with this band. CKY's last release, Infiltrate, Destroy, Rebuild, was a rock solid, hell of an album. Catchy riffs, melodic vocals and bass-heavy rock made that disc what it was, and An Answer Can Be Found does not stray from that formula. This album basically sounds like the second part of Infiltrate, Destroy, Rebuild. A few new elements are added, including guitar solos. The synthesizers are here as well, though not as prominently on this release. Songs basically have the same structure, sound and production, and it wasn't until "Triple Manic State" that I started to get into this album. If only the whole thing would have been like this. "Triple Manic State." "Deceit Is Striking Gold" and "Sniped" are all killer tracks in the second half of the album. The first single, "Familiar Realm," is nothing special, but is a decent introduction to the record.

Maybe I just expected a lot more from CKY on this album. I will say that after a few listens, the album is growing on me quickly. This may turn out to be one of those releases that after time, you find yourself listening to day in and day out and eventually love it.
