Clocking in at only 32 minutes, Organic Hallucinosis hits you hard and fast with intelligible and — dare I say — catchy death/thrash metal. Immediately you'll hear a distinct difference between the vocals and those of most all other death metal releases. Though still harsh and extreme, they're actually listenable. They are similar to Entombed or Sepultura, but the best comparison would be to Burton C. Bell of Fear Factory. Death metal purists will complain, but I need to understand something I'm hearing from the vocal department. This was a nice surprise.

This music is not just the wall of noise that we so often hear lately. The songs actually have structure and are somewhat technical. At times, it's more thrash than death metal. There are a lot of songs which seem to have a start-stop kind of structure, making for an interesting listen from start to finish. The guitars churn out chunky, heavy riffs, sounding very Fear Factory-ish throughout. The album is made up of only eight songs. The three strongest tracks — "Day 69," "Revelation Of Persistence" and "Visual Delusion" — are at the center. "Day 69" is so damn good it sticks out like a sore thumb here. The song has a pulverizing double-bass start-and-stop beat, capped off by Sabbath-esque riffs and lightning fast solos. There's even a short double-bass breakdown in the middle of the track. One of the best I've ever heard period. "Visual Delusion" has an out-of-sync riff throughout, and the song turns very technical, almost reminiscent of Heartwork-era Carcass. There is not a weak track on the disc from start to finish. "Invisible Control" is great an the album's closing track and may be the heaviest of the entire disc.

This is not the most original album by any means, but Decapitated combine several elements of thrash and death metal to produce a strong and brutal effort. At times it seems that the band is showing off, and they do it well. Along with Kataklysm's In The Arms Of Devastation, Organic Hallucinosis is another strong extreme metal recording in 2006. Go out and get Decapitated!
