Demiricous' One is an album ode
to old school thrash metal with a few new elements added.
The Indianapolis quartet mixes in some 80s inspired classic
metal influence within the album's 12 tracks, while the bulk
of the release seems to sound like Slayer's brother who was
separated at birth. Comparisons could also be made to Megadeth,
Testament or Exodus.
One is fast, furious and refuses to let up for anything.
As is the case with many albums of this style, it seems that
too many of the tracks seem to blend together. That's not
to say its not solid material, songs are just hard to distinguish
from others at first listen. Demiricous is at their best when
they slow things up to mid-tempo here and there, thus adding
in some interesting dynamics to the material. Songs like "Perfection
And The Infection" and "To Serve Is To Destroy" are perfect
examples of this. Fierce openings give way, to dynamic breakdowns
which are overlayed with brilliant guitarwork.
Vocalist Nate Olp delivers with a low harsh rasp almost similar
to Jeff Walker of Carcass. I actually hear a bit of a Carcass
influence in the album as well. The vocals seem to alternate
between this and more of a death metal growl. The twin guitar
attack of Ben Parrish and Scott Wilson spews forth some very
good if not that original riffs, but some of the most bad
ass thrash solos in recent memory. Wailing guitar solos are
found in every track on this release. The album is well worth
the listen if you're craving some no nonsense metal.
Demiricous has the talent and some very good ideas on One,
their debut for Metal Blade. Here's hoping that they will
continue to build upon this release by adding more of their
own touch on future releases. With that said though, a true
metal fan will not be disappointed with anything Demiricous
has to offer at this stage in their career.
Stand Out Tracks: "Perfection And The Infection", "Vagrant
Idol", "Hellraisers"....to name a few. |
