Chaos. Listening to Destroyer Destroyer’s album Littered
with Arrows, it’s about the first thing that comes
to mind. This album sounds like a train wreck set to music.
With downtuned seven string guitars, kick drums and vocals
that sound like a screech from a Tasmanian devil, Destroyer
Destroyer certainly puts the noise in noisecore.
So is it any good? It will be appealing if you’re a
fan of this. Destroyer Destroyer sort of reminded me of Psyopus
without the guitar noodling. The music is intended to sound
like a multi-car pileup and it succeeds, like on “A
Golden Technique” and “We’ve Been Had v2.”
The songs aren’t meant to have any sort of set structure
and that’s fine. I’ve heard enough of these bands
to sort of know where things are going. I at least appreciated
them more than Psyopus because they don’t have that
band’s penchant for excess. Destroyer Destroyer is more
in line with hardcore punk than math metal.
In a nutshell, I’m not totally sure I liked this, but
it succeeds in its own way. The band certainly is intense,
even if the photos make them look like Radio Shack employees.
If you like your metal unusually noisy and chaotic, Destroyer
Destroyer will be worth a listen. If not, you should probably
skip it. |
