Prosthetic Records has built quite the roster of experimental metal and hardcore influenced artists. Bands such as Yakuza, Burn In Silence, The Esoteric and now, Kylesa push the envelope of conventional music as we know it. All of these acts are based in rock music, but have set out on a mission to display that musical boundaries are virtually non-existent.
My first thought upon hearing the new Kylesa album, Time Will Fuse Its Worth was that this was Janes Addiction with a major shot of adrenaline. That description may fit to a certain extent but is not entirely accurate. What Kylesa brings to the table is almost indescribable: hardcore and metal influences, distortion/noise, dirty, sludgy riffs, and a level of ambience only a select few can pull off. Lead vocalist/ bassist Corey Barhorst barks his lower rasp vocals over the wall of sound, with added parts from guitarists Phillip Cope and Laura Pleasants. Two drummers are also featured here, Jeff Porter and Carl McGinley, something the band had set out to have from their start. Cope produced the release, while Pleasants designed the artistic layout and packaging of the album. This band has creativity flowing out of their ears.
Time Will Fuse Its Worth will not disappoint any fan of rock music, as there is something here for almost everyone. With so many bands currently limited to one select style and sound, Kylesa is a much needed gasp of fresh air. This truly is alternative music, and no I'm not talking about Green Day or fucking Blink 182...
Standout tracks: “What Becomes An End”, “Between Silence and Sound”, “Identity Defined”
