Mudvayne are back after what seems a very brief absence, with Lost and Found. The makeup and gimmick appear to be gone now for reasons unknown, but the band is mostly the same as it ever was. Lost and Found starts off very strong with the Pantera-esque riffs of "Determined," the sure-to-be-mosh-friendly "Pushing Through" and the first single "Happy." It continues along with strong tracks like "IMN" and "TV Radio," but in between and after the songs seem to blend in a bit. Maybe after repeated listens they'll begin to standout more and grow on you, but overall the second half of the album seems to drop off a bit. That's not to say its bad, just nowhere near as good as the first few songs.
Overall, Mudvayne do a good job of combining the "math-metal" of the highly popular L.D.50 with the melodic parts of The End Of All Things To Come on this release, which seems to be their intention here. This is a solid metal release from a solid metal band. While Lost And Found won't be a classic or propel Mudvayne to the top of the heap, it's a welcome addition to any metal collection and proves that good music like this can outlast trends such as nu-metal and any other label.
