Thrash metal act Sadus return with Out For Blood, their first album in seven years. One of the big selling points for this band is bassist Steve Di Giorgio (Death, Iced Earth, Testament), and though the bass in ever present on this album, the most interesting song, "No More," features some of the wildest electronics I have ever heard. Aside from this song, Out for Blood is a fairly standard thrash/speed metal album. That's not to say there isn't quality material found here, but it's ground that has been covered before. Most, if not all, the cliches are here. Hearing the album takes you back to the speed metal bands of the late '80s with its lightning-fast riffs, shouted choruses and high pitched shrieking vocals similar to Overkill and, at times, Cradle of Filth. The vocals, though not bad, take away from the heaviness of this recording more often than not.
Sadus is at its best on Out for Blood when it slows down its chugging riffs on songs like "Smackdown" and "Down." The guitar sound is similar to Pantera, making for some heavy, headbanging tunes. "Crazy," the album's closer, features guest vocals from Testament's Chuck Billy and is one of the stronger tracks.
If you have a craving for some '80s inspired metal, then be sure to check out Out For Blood. There are not many bands still around that play this style of retro-thrash. When I hear this album, I just picture leather, spikes, chains and guys on stage swinging their heavy metal hair to some old school thrash.
