Shallow Water Grave offer up an impressive slab of hardcore thrash metal on Suspension of Disbelief. The band combine old school thrash with hints of metalcore. The melodic guitar attack immediately stands out, bringing to mind Shadows Fall or Killswitch Engage, while lead vocalist Frankie Pascale sounds like Vulgar Display-era Phil Anselmo. The five songs that make up this EP are all similar in structure and sound, but there’s enough here to show that SWG have something to offer the scene. Songs such as “Persist And Persevere” sound like a band on a mission, with headbanging riffs and gang vocals. The lyrics, or at least what I could decipher have a hardcore background with your typical standing strong, can’t take us down, tough-guy attitude. But it works here.
Shallow Water Grave, who have been together only since 2003, seem to have their shit together. Be on the look out for a full release from this band. It could make some noise in the hardcore and metal scenes alike. In the meantime, check out Suspension of Disbelief for some high quality hardcore/metal.
