Hailing from Worchester, England, The Seventh Cross attempt to combine several styles of extreme music on their new release, Scorched By The Flames Of Vengeance. The five-piece band incorporates elements of hardcore, death metal, black metal and classic metal, making for a somewhat interesting, though misguided listen. It is simply unclear as to what this band is trying to do. The material is quality, at times reminiscent of Pantera, Hatebreed or Norway's finest black metallers, but the vocals leave a lot to be desired. The vocals are an indecipherable, monotone, black metal style that don't always mesh well with the band's more hardcore and classic metal material. How about a little variety here? The disc is full of ideas, but none gets the full time to develop or allows the band to find a groove.

Scorched By The Flames Of Vengeance will appeal to a wide variety of fans, from hardcore kids to metalcore, and classic metalheads. The band are obviously fans of many types of heavy music and can play parts of most genres. Now if only The Seventh Cross would find a primary style to stick to and let the other influences blend in on their own. Then we would have something to be excited about.
