MOTLEY CRUE
Allentown, PA
Great Allentown Fair

By GREG MAKI
The Crue is one of my absolute favorite bands. They have been for as long as I have been a fan of rock music, which is more than 15 years. I remember buying Dr. Feelgood the day it was released when I was 9 years old. I had seen them in concert four times before this latest show (though the last two were without Tommy). I decided to go all out this time and got the Platinum package, which included a preshow meet and greet with the band. The whole experience is a bit of blur. About 25 of us went to a backstage area, where the band came out to see us. We each got one item signed (I chose the tour program I received as part of the Plat package) and two pictures with them. I really didn't know what to say to them. I think I just kind of mumbled something about being a big fan for a long time. They were very friendly, chatting with everyone and joking around with each other. I had heard bad things about Vince, but either they were wrong or he was in a good mood. Mick is incredibly frail, and we were told ahead of time to be gentle with him. I thought I was going to break his hand when I shook it.
It was a wonderful experience, once in a lifetime for me due to the price tag. It was also fun meeting the other fans and seeing the things they brought for the band to sign. There were a couple guitars, and one person had the Nikki Sixx signature Blackbird bass.
The show itself was amazing as well. The Crue is in top form and seem genuinely happy together, something I didn't think was possible. They broke out all the hits in a two and a half hour set. I especially enjoyed the first part of the set, which was almost all songs from Too Fast For Love and Shout at the Devil.
