Daughters of Mara, a hard rock/metal band out of Los Angeles, CA have recently signed to Virgin Records. The band's music, as featured on their myspace page, is a mixture of melodic cutting edge hard rock and metal. Comparisons could be made to Bloodsimple, Disturbed or even System Of A Down.

The conceptual essence of the band is derived from the Buddhist personification of evil (Mara) and the story of her three daughters who represent desire, lust and aversion. Mara is the lord of misfortune, sin, destruction and Death. Mara is the ruler of desire and death, the two evils that chain man to the wheel of ceaseless rebirth. Mara reviles man, blinds him, guides him toward sensuous desires; once man is in his bondage, Mara is free to destroy him.

All demos online were written, recorded, produced and performed by Shawn Zuzek (frontman of Daughters of Mara) on a 16 track hard disk. No vocal fixes or computers were used during this recording. Look for the band to go into the studio in October and to release a CD in stores early next year.
