There are many perilous ways one can spend time off—volcano-boarding down Cerro Negro, Nicaragua’s active volcano, or maybe bungee jumping from a helicopter over the bubbling crater of Chile’s Villarrica volcano. How about a visit to Sao Paulo’s Snake Island, home of 4,000 golden lancehead vipers whose venom can melt human flesh? Or shark diving without a cage in South Africa? But nothing is quite as hazardous or risky as a night in the pit at a Slayer concert. Add to that the ferociousness of Lamb of God and Behemoth, and you’ve got a Satan-approved triple bill of Biblical proportions.

The six-week expedition will rage across North America beginning July 12 in Bemidji, Minnesota, winding up in Phoenix, Arizona, on Aug. 20. Slayer and Lamb of Godalso will play Wisconsin’s Rock Fest 2017 (July 13) and Rock USA 2017 (July 15), and then meet up with Behemoth at the Chicago Open Air Festival on July 16. Tickets go on sale this Friday, March 3; log on to www.slayer.net/tour for all purchasing details. (more…)

Behemoth has launched a brand new video for the title track from “The Satanist” on behemoth.pl. The video, directed by Andrzej Dragan (andrzejdragan.com), is another ambitious and visually striking piece of art from the band that’s known for videos that remain a cut above standard metal music videos.

Behemoth front man Nergal comments: “Behemoth has always been about breaking boundaries, taboos, leaving its comfort zone and thinking out of the box! Here we go again with the brand new video from us. It’s already a fourth official clip off “The Satanist”… The concept came from the director, Andrzej Dragan. It’s situated in modern Warsaw in the present times. It’s where the carnal world meets the unknown… it’s where the ZOS meets KIA… It’s where SACRUM is rapes by PROFANUM…”

Director Andrzej Dragan adds: “This is a picture of alienation and ultimate rejection of an oversensitive character by an anonymous city.”

Behemoth: Devil’s Conquistadors by Łukasz Dunaj serves as the definitive Behemoth biography. The book, officially blessed, or rather damned, by Behemoth, serves as an in-depth look at the history of the events that materially influenced the band. As Dunaj points out in the introduction, this isn’t, “Poland’s response to Motley Crue’s biography The Dirt.” Behemoth: Devil’s Conquistadors is the story of Behemoth, its music, its ultimate rise to the upper echelon of metal and becoming a household name in its native homeland, Poland.

Behemoth: Devil’s Conquistadors will be released via Metal Blade Records on Feb. 24. (more…)

Behemoth – Sept. 2014

Two of the most prominent bands in the history of death metal are teaming up to take North America in 2015! Cannibal Corpse and Behemoth will join forces beginning on January 28th in New Orleans, LA at the House of Blues. Both bands are touring in support of their most recent and massively successful albums. Cannibal Corpse released their thirteenth album, A Skeletal Domain, on September 16th and debuted at #32 on the Billboard Top 200. Behemoth’s critically-applauded tenth album, The Satanist, entered the Billboard Top 200 at #34 after its release on February 4th of this year. Erimha_BandPhoto
In what was probably my favorite interview I did during the Bristow, Va., stop of the 2014 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival, I sat down with Kthien, guitarist of Canadian black metallers Erimha (while still in his stagewear and warpaint from performing earlier). The band name means “army” or “legion” in Sumerian, and many fans were greeted with Erimha’s war cry from the Victory Records stage as they entered the festival during the early afternoon hours. In broad daylight, these black metal warriors stood out like a 35-year-old man attending a Warped Tour show (like me a few years ago). However, they were an instant draw and no doubt one of the most talked about bands of the day. Erimha is out supporting its latest release,
Reign Through Immortality (July 9, 2013), so what better showcase than the Mayhem Festival? But what makes this band tick? What do they really believe in? Like other black metal bands such as Behemoth, do Erimha’s stage show, lyrics and album tie together for a greater meaning? Kthien answered all my questions and more inside. (more…)

behemoth-2013

Behemoth‘s highly anticipated new video for “Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel” has been unveiled. This visual masterpiece was produced by Grupa 13 and is one of Behemoth‘s most unsettling and unique works to date.

Behemoth front man Nergal discusses the video: “Yes, we took all the time in the world to complete this project. And we did everything that was humanely possible to accurately express our vision. We crossed the Rubicon. “Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel” is an ecstatic manifest of our unrestrained artistic will, where we dare to reach out beyond the limitations of the heavy metal genre. And it’s only the beginning…Enjoy!” (more…)
