Even as he built Black Label Society into the metal monster it is today, Zakk Wylde cultivated another side as a musician, mixing the occasional acoustic number or piano ballad among the Sabbath-esque riffs and face-melting guitar solos. He’s emphasized it more of late, first with the BLS Unblackened album and tour, and this year with his second solo release, 20 years after the first record bearing his name, appropriately titled Book of Shadows II.

On both Book of Shadows albums, Wylde leans into his love of Southern rock, with mellow, melancholy tunes that highlight him as a songwriter in addition to being one of the few remaining bona fide guitar gods. Yet lIke the Unblackened run last year, the tour supporting Book of Shadows II is anything but “unplugged.” (more…)

Guitar icon Zakk Wylde will release Book Of Shadows II on April 8th, 2016 via Entertainment One Music (eOne Music), his first solo release in 20 years. This release is the highly anticipated follow up to 1996’s Book of Shadows LP, a classic album Wylde released between his work with Ozzy Osbourne that has since become a fan favorite. Book Of Shadows II was recently named as one of the ““Most Anticipated Metal Releases of 2016” via Rollingstone.com..

Wylde has been feverishly working on new material since he wrapped up Black Label Society’s “Unblackened” spring tour last year (read live recap and view live photos here). All songs on Book of Shadows II were recorded and produced at Wylde’s legendary home studio, The Black Vatican, which produced several of Wylde’s recent releases. The new effort will be followed by a wave of tour dates in support to be announced soon. (more…)

Let’s get one thing straight: “Unblackened” does not equal “unplugged.”

Many people, including fans, are under the impression that Black Label Society’s “Unblackened” tour is an acoustic affair, despite the presence of a 2013 live album of the same name that offers definitive proof otherwise. (Of course, the Wikipedia entry on the release begins, “Unblackened is a live acoustic album,” so there’s plenty of misinformation out there.) (more…)

Guitar god Zakk Wylde and Black Label Society brought their highly anticipated “Unblackened” (not “unplugged”–there’s a big difference, trust me) tour last night to Rams Head Live in Baltimore, Maryland, and were on fire throughout a nearly two-hour set. Zakk’s playing has never been better, and a set list that included songs from Pride and Glory and Book of Shadows, along with BLS tunes, was a real treat. We will have a full review and photo gallery online soon, but for now, check out a couple preview images.
