Invidia

Former Skinlab guitarist Brian Jackson wasn’t thinking much about a full-fledged band when he and In This Moment bassist Travis Johnson started exchanging song ideas via email. But they quickly realized they were on to something, and Invidia was born, with Johnson on vocals, Jackson on lead guitar, Matt Snell (Five Finger Death Punch) on bass, Marcos Medina (Skinlab) on rhythm guitar and Darren Badorine on drums. The band came together quickly, but it’s been a longer road to its first album, which wrapped recording more than a year ago. The wait will come to an end Friday, March 31, when As the Sun Sleeps (pre-order here), one of the more anticipated debuts of 2017, is set for release. Jackson recently called in to Live Metal’s Greg Maki to discuss the band’s origins, the album and more. (more…)

Invidia

Invidia has teamed up with Metal Insider to give another taste of what’s in store on its debut album, As The Sun Sleepts. Today, the band is streaming the title track off the record, which is set to drop March 3 via Steamhammer/SPV. Fans can listen now, here.

When asked about “As the Sun Sleeps,” guitarist and founding member Brian Jackson said: “I’m really happy we decided to release ‘As the Sun Sleeps.’ This track is honestly one of my personal favorites, and it’s the absolute opposite of what we just released with our last single, ‘Feed the Fire,’ which is more of a heavy rock radio-friendly song. It shows that the record has to offer a very diverse range and can be on the heavier side of things. ‘As the Sun Sleeps’ is really guitar riff-oriented with pounding drums and heavy breakdowns. I think the metal heads will be pleasantly surprised once they hear this track.” (more…)

In This Moment’s debut album, Beautiful Tragedy, will be released on vinyl for the first time in February.

The album, released in 2007, reached No. 35 on Billboard’s Independent charts. In This Moment has gone to sell nearly half a million albums and, in 2014, released its major label debut, Black Widow, for Atlantic.

Though the band has risen to prominence on an electronic/industrial-tinged sound and an elaborate stage show, Beautiful Tragedy is a blend of metalcore and hard rock. From the lineup that recorded it, only vocalist Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth remain in the band today. Read Live Metal’s review, originally published in March 2007, here. (more…)

Can we end the debate now? Rock ‘n’ roll will never die. Metal will never die. Didn’t anybody listen to Neil Young? Didn’t anybody listen to Ronnie James Dio? If that isn’t enough, I have further proof in the 26,000 fans who attended the sold-out 2015 Rock Allegiance festival at PPL Park in Chester, Pennsylvania. Featuring living legends Rob Zombie, Korn and Godsmack, current rock bands carrying the torch like Five Finger Death Punch and Bring Me the Horizon, along with a lineup of other mainstays and up-and-coming bands, Rock Allegiance was a nonstop day celebrating rock and metal. Butcher Babies

Butcher Babies

Though it seems like they’ve been on tour constantly for the past couple years, Butcher Babies recently found time to record their second full-length album, an effort they say takes them back to their thrash roots. As they await a late-summer release, they’ve taken to the road again, rejoining past touring partners In This Moment for a schedule that also includes most of the big rock festivals in the U.S., followed by a trip around the European festival circuit. When the In This Moment tour recently came to Rams Head Live in Baltimore, Maryland, Live Metal’s Greg Maki sat down with frontwomen Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey to discuss their upcoming sophomore album and more.
