One of the most anticipated metal tours of the spring–dubbed the “Killthrax” tour–brought together bands–and fans–of different eras. On one hand, there was Anthrax, one of the “big four” of thrash and possessing a history of more than 35 years. On the other, there was Killswitch Engage, one of the pioneers and leaders of metalcore, but also with a lengthening history of its own–its seminal, subgenre-defining album, Alive or Just Breathing, turns 15 this year. Metalcore forefathers Killswitch Engage and thrash legends Anthrax announced in December they will hit the road this spring to co-headline a 27-date North American tour, presented by SiriusXM. The bands’ itinerary alsowill include an April 15 appearance at the Texas Independence Festival in Austin, as well as each band headlining two solo shows separate from the double bill.

With Anthrax and KsE rotating the closing slot over the course of the dates, the tour will hit the ground on March 29 in Montclair, New Jersey, and then criss-cross the continent, wrapping up May 7 in Boston. The Devil Wears Prada will provide direct support on all dates. (more…)

Revered for its aggressive and intense music coupled with self-empowering and positive lyrics, hardcore/metal band Hatebreed releases “Looking Down The Barrel of Today,” the first music video from their upcoming album, The Concrete Confessional, due out May 13 (Nuclear Blast worldwide).

Directed by David Brodsky (Cannibal Corpse, Whitechapel, All That Remains) the performance piece was shot earlier this month at the band’s rehearsal space in Connecticut.  The video opens with the preface “Welcome to Two Minutes and Forty-Seven Seconds with Hatebreed,” and includes special text throughout that was written by vocalist Jamey Jasta as a message of keeping a positive mental attitude. Check out the video, album info and tour dates inside!

hatebreedIs it safe to say that Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta is the best thing to come from MTV the last 10 years?

Granted, he was already fronting Hatebreed before then, but God knows the network hasn’t done anything near as cool as what Jasta and his band have done just with this self-titled album alone, much less Hatebreed’s prior work. Given that he’s the founder and overall face of Hatebreed, Jasta is front and center on this album and he delivers his usual punishing performance. (more…)
