Simone Simons of Epica

Dutch symphonic metal band Epica have launched the new music video for”Beyond The Matrix” taken from the band’s latest album The Holographic Principle.

Frontwoman Simone Simons comments: “The energy that lives within “Beyond the Matrix” is extremely contagious. It will sweep you off your feet when the melodies enter your mind. The video embodies the spirit and liveliness of Epica. Transcend together with us and shine past the sky”

Epica’s North American Principle Tour made one of its last stops of its month-long trek at Baltimore Soundstage, and judging by the energy of the band and its fans, this show should go down as one of the strongest of the tour. According to Epica’s official Instagram, Soundstage won the “award for most crowdsurfers” of the tour, as hundreds of fans came to see the Dutch goddess Simone Simons lead the symphonic metal masters, who are supporting their new album, The Holographic Principle. The tour was an international affair, with Epica from the Netherlands, Italian symphonic death metallers Fleshgod Apocalypse, the Russian pagan tribe Arkona and The Agonist, which hails from Montreal, Canada. Long a seasoned veteran of heavy metal concerts, some time ago I reached a point where it was harder to determine which bands I hadn’t seen perform live than the ones I had. My first show was Ozzy Osbourne in 1988, and my most recent was this year’s installment of the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. In between, I’ve seen most of the prominent metal bands of the past three decades: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Pantera, Sepultura, White and Rob Zombie, Korn, Slipknot and many more. Then there’s the legends like Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Alice Cooper and Dio, all of which I’ve seen, as well. But one had stood out, missing from my—what I think is an impressive—list throughout the years—King Diamond. So when he was announced as a main stage act as part of this year’s Mayhem Festival, alongside Slayer, Hellyeah and The Devil Wears Prada, I thought it might be now or never. (more…)
