Alter Bridge has added a new U.S. leg to its The Last Hero tour this spring, in addition to its previously announced music festival appearances. Since forming in 2004, Alter Bridge has seen its stock steadily rise in the hard rock realm, its prominence emphasized by a full-fledged arena tour of Europe to close out 2016. On Jan. 20, the band–vocalist/guitarist Myles Kennedy, guitarist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott Phillips–will kick off its first North American headlining tour in support of its latest album (see dates below), the superb 2016 release The Last Hero. Though the album is Alter Bridge’s first since 2013, the band members haven’t taken much time off. Kennedy fronts Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash’s solo band and has been working on his own solo material; Tremonti leads his eponymous, speed metal-influenced band; and Phillips hits the skins for Projected, featuring members of Sevendust and Tremonti’s band. Live Metal’s Greg Maki recently caught up with Kennedy to discuss the new album, tour and more. (more…)

Tremonti, the band led by Creed/Alter Bridge guitarist Mark Tremonti, will release its third album, Dust, on April 29 via Fret 12. The cover artwork can be seen below. According to a teaser video featuring a clip of the new song “Catching Fire,” which also can be seen below, new tour dates will be announced soon, as well.
Dust was recorded during the same sessions as last year’s Cauterize. It features Tremonti on vocals and guitar, Eric Friedman on guitar, Wolfgang Van Halen on bass and Garrett Whitlock on drums. (Tanner Keegan replaced Van Halen last year in the touring band.) Michael “Elvis” Baskette produced both albums.
“I wanted both records to flow nice within themselves,” Tremonti told Live Metal in an interview last year. “If I had two slower songs, I’d put one on one record and one on the other, and try and make the records evenly.” (more…)

For some people, a vacation is a time of relaxation, of escaping the real world and the responsibilities that come with it. Some visit with friends and family. Others travel to new and exotic locations around the world.
Me? I take a break from my day job to cover four concerts in five days, in two states and the District of Columbia. (more…)

After conquering the world with two bands (Creed and Alter Bridge), Mark Tremonti is on his way to doing it again leading a third, the appropriately named Tremonti. The group—which, in addition to its namesake on lead guitar and vocals, features guitarist Eric Friedman, drummer Garrett Whitlock and bassist Wolfgang Van Halen—is an outlet for Mark’s heavier side, a nod to the music on which he grew up. Its second album, Cauterize, will be released June 9 via Fret 12, and record number three, Dust, is already in the can, too. As the band wrapped up a U.S. tour and prepared to head to Europe, Tremonti called in to Live Metal’s Greg Maki to discuss his eponymous band, the new album and more. (more…)

In its fifth year, Carolina Rebellion, held on a open field outside Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina, was bigger than ever this year. The addition of a fourth stage brought the total number of bands over the two days to 39 and also spread out the festival over an almost excessively large space, driving the two main stages about a half-mile apart. This growth led to more attendees than ever before, too, with the crowd at the sold-out event reaching 40,000 on each day (based on an initial estimate of a total combined attendance of 80,000, provided by the festival’s publicist).
