Avenged Sevenfold, 2003

Avenged Sevenfold have debuted its new video for “Chapter Four” from the re-release of Waking The Fallen, titled Waking The Fallen: Resurrected (currently positioned at No.38 on the Billboard Top 200). The video features archived live footage of the band and can be viewed inside. This was the song that originally made me an A7X fan, even after I heard it a thousand times while playing NHL 2004 on Playstation. (more…)

With the exciting and unexpected news that a new Body Count album called Manslaughter would be dropping (June 10, 2014, Sumerian Records), once again I find myself in a retro type of mood. For the new generation of rock and metal fans, the band Body Count—led by gangsta-rapper-turned-actor Ice-T—is all but unknown. Ice-T, you say? The same Ice-T that plays a detective on NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit? The same Ice-T who’s been a star of reality television? Yes, that Ice-T. As unexpected as this may sound as I write about it today, just think about how surprising or even shocking this was more than 20 years ago as I attempt to recount my memory of Body Count’s 1992 self-titled debut album and the chain of events that followed. When the above intro played, for all of us diehard metalheads, this was it—this was the time, “our” time, and the only time of each week we could check out our favorite bands, hope to see our favorite videos and hear the latest metal. This was MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball, which originally aired from from midnight to 3 a.m. Saturday nights from April 18, 1987, to Jan. 28, 1995. After the initial years when MTV VJ Adam Curry and the lot of late ’80s hair metal bands were phased out, Headbanger’s Ball, under the guidance of host Riki Rachtman, introduced fans to bands that went on to have major breakthroughs in the metal scene, many of which are still active today. Behemoth has posted a brand new track from their forthcoming album, The Satanist. The track is entitled “Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer” and is accompanied by a lyric video that includes artwork and text from inside the digipak booklet. “Ora pro nobis,” which is latin for “pray for us”, features lyrics penned by Nergal, along with Krzysztof Azarewicz.
