Parlophone Records will follow 2014’s reissue of the first eight Iron Maiden albums, which spanned the 1980s, with twelve brand new pressings of albums from the period 1990-2015 in heavyweight 180g black vinyl.

Unlike the 1980’s reissues which were cut from the original analogue master tapes, the audio on these releases has been cut from the high resolution remasters of 2015 when the Maiden catalogue was digitally upgraded. They will be packaged in identical artwork to the initial vinyl releases. View the release schedule and details inside! (more…)

Record Store Day is thrilled to announce its Ambassador for 2016, Grammy Award-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees…METALLICA! Metallica is no stranger to Record Store Day, this year set for Saturday, April 16th, a special day in support of independent record stores and record store culture worldwide, now in its ninth year. “Independent record stores are part of Metallica’s DNA,” said drummer Lars Ulrich. “They have been pivotal in shaping each one of us into the music fanatics we’ve all become. We could not be any prouder to be Record Store Day Ambassadors for 2016 and are looking forward to screaming from every rooftop the next few months about everything independent record store and beyond.”

Metallica today announced that they will reissue their first two albums Kill ‘Em All and Ride The Lightning on April 15th.  Both albums have been remastered for the most advanced sound quality and will be available in three formats – CD, vinyl, and Deluxe Box set. Both Deluxe Box sets include original source material from the band’s personal collection with many never before heard OR seen recordings, along with a book including rare photos and essays from those who were there.

In This Moment’s debut album, Beautiful Tragedy, will be released on vinyl for the first time in February.

The album, released in 2007, reached No. 35 on Billboard’s Independent charts. In This Moment has gone to sell nearly half a million albums and, in 2014, released its major label debut, Black Widow, for Atlantic.

Though the band has risen to prominence on an electronic/industrial-tinged sound and an elaborate stage show, Beautiful Tragedy is a blend of metalcore and hard rock. From the lineup that recorded it, only vocalist Maria Brink and guitarist Chris Howorth remain in the band today. Read Live Metal’s review, originally published in March 2007, here. (more…)

In case you’ve been living under a rock, vinyl is back big time. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, 2014 mid-year report, sales of CDs and digital downloads are down. Revenue from streaming services and vinyl album sales are up. Vinyl LP sales increased an impressive 43 percent over 2013, to $146 million. Vinyl sales account for 4.6 percent of total music sales. Signs seem to point to the CD soon becoming extinct the way of the 8-track and cassette tape .

So that brings us to Record Store Day. Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding nearly 1400 independently owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally. There are Record Store Day participating stores on every continent except Antarctica. Record Store Day is now celebrated the third Saturday every April.

But did you know that Record Store Day has also expanded to Black Friday? This year Black Friday takes place on Friday, November 28th, and while Black Friday isn’t technically “Record Store Day II,” it’s really more of a special release date than a one-day “holiday.” Check out the Black Friday FAQ here.

This year Black Friday will see several rock and metal special releases from the likes of Green Day, Judas Priest, Korn, Mastodon, Metallica and more. So get out to your nearest Record Store and start your Christmas shopping off right. Check out a few of the titles below: (more…)

Asking Alexandria have come a long way in a short amount of time. And I’m not just talking about the trip over from the U.K. I wasn’t too impressed with the band and their live performance going back to Warped Tour 2011, but in the time since they’ve released their excellent third album, combining metalcore and melodic rock on 2013’s From Death To Destiny (In fact, I liked it so much I bought the 2LP Vinyl version), and most recently they had their biggest break to date, playing the main stage on the 2014 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. One of the standout songs from their set was the power ballad, “Moving On” and now the band has released an official video of the track. Check it out inside. (more…)
