Check out pro-shot footage of Arch Enemy’s full set from the Wacken Open Air Festival 2016 in Germany. During a press conference on the day prior to its performance, guitarist Michael Amott revealed that the band has plans for a live release and have written a “handful of new songs” with its latest addition to the band, guitarist Jeff Loomis (Nevermore). The follow-up to 2014’s War Eternal (review) will be the first studio album featuring Loomis and second with vocalist Alissa White-Gluz. Watch the live set inside! (more…)

Currently on the road in Europe in support of 2014’s War Eternal, Arch Enemy will return to North America this July and August to headline the 2015 installment of “Summer Slaughter.” Featuring Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, The Acacia Strain, Obscura, After the Burial, Cattle Decapitation and Beyond Creation as support, this tour will mark the band’s second North American run on this album cycle–but the first stateside trek to feature new guitarist Jeff Loomis. Before extreme metal titans Arch Enemy kick off their European tour tomorrow in France, they are releasing a new video for the digital single, “Stolen Life (2015 Version)”! Earlier this week, metal icons Arch Enemy unleashed their new album, War Eternal (review), across the world, with critics hailing it as their “strongest album in years” (Decibel Magazine). To kick-off the War Eternal campaign, the band launched an extensive European tour, which is currently underway through the rest of the year. In addition to these dates, Arch Enemy will also make their much-anticipated return to North American soil this October/November! Featuring Kreator, Huntress, and Starkill as support, this headlining trek will be the band’s first tour in the States since 2011– and the first US tour to feature new members Alissa White-Gluz (vocals) and Nick Cordle (guitar). We have covered Arch Enemy extensively over the years and even developed a relationship with the band’s founder and guitarist, Michael Amott. He’s been featured on Live Metal so much that we’ve joked that he should have his own column. We are also fans and I consider the band’s Wages of Sin and Anthems of Rebellion albums two of my favorites of the extreme metal genre. When Angela Gossow replaced original vocalist Johan Liiva in 2000, she and Arch Enemy paved the way for female vocalists fronting extreme music. She can be considered a pioneer now in that aspect. Yes, she wasn’t the first, but she did become one of the most well known and admired, while Arch Enemy became one of the most recognizable bands in its subgenre. So earlier this year, when it was announced Angela was  stepping down as vocalist to concentrate on her career as a manager, I was surprised and the metal community was shocked. (more…)

From the sound of these first two songs, it seems the band has gone back to a more stripped down, Wages of Sin style and we’re diggin’ it. Not to mention new front-woman Alissa White-Gluz. As announced earlier this week, extreme metal icons Arch Enemy have introduced a new member to their ranks: Alissa White-Gluz, former vocalist of Canadian act The Agonist. Angela Gossow, who joined Arch Enemy in 2000 and made her debut on the now classic Wages Of Sin (2001), will be stepping down as front-woman and focusing on the band’s management.
